Friends of the Global Fight Against AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria hosted a live conversation with Professor Quarraisha Abdool Karim to discuss the importance of focusing on women in the battle against COVID-19 and HIV. Professor Abdool Karim has nearly 30 years of research experience and is an international expert on HIV infection in adolescent girls and young women. Her scientific contributions have highlighted the vulnerability of young women and the need for women-initiated technologies. Her landmark study, CAPRISA004, demonstrated that a topical gel could reduce a person’s risk of contracting HIV. She offers a critical perspective as COVID-19 threatens decades of progress against HIV.
This conversation with Professor Abdool Karim was the second in our #FriendsHealthChat series. The first conversation in the series was with Dr. Anthony Fauci.
