Friends of the Global Fight today released an updated edition of its policy brief, “Disease Knows No Borders: Global Health Security Investments Make America Safer.” This issue brief highlights how U.S. leadership in global health ultimately protects our country’s own health security. In addition, U.S. investments in bilateral health programs fighting HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria, in coordination with strategic investments in the Global Fund, save millions of lives and protect the U.S. from future disease threats through:
- Containing and controlling epidemics at their sources
- Providing access to treatment and prevention efforts
- Reducing the threat of Americans and military personnel contracting diseases while overseas
- Bolstering health systems to respond to emergencies and prevent the spread of disease to our shores.
