FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Susan Smith Ellis, CEO of (PRODUCT)RED Joins Friends of the Global Fight’s Board of Directors
Washington, D.C., September 8, 2010 — Friends of the Global Fight Against AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria announced today that (PRODUCT)RED CEO Susan Smith Ellis has been named to its Board of Directors. Ms. Smith Ellis brings with her more than 20 years of experience as an executive in brand development and advertising, as well as a passionate commitment to fighting HIV/AIDS around the world.
“It is a pleasure to welcome Susan to Friends of the Global Fight’s Board,” said Ed Scott, Chair of Friends of the Global Fight’s Board of Directors. “Her impressive credentials, record of leadership and existing ties to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria will be a tremendous asset to this Board.”
(RED) is a brand designed to engage business and consumer power to help eliminate AIDS in Africa. (RED) works with the world’s most iconic brands to make unique (PRODUCT)RED™-branded products and direct up to 50% of their gross profits to the Global Fund to invest in HIV/AIDS programs in Africa.
Under Ms. Smith Ellis’ leadership, (RED) has launched a number of new initiatives, including (RED)Wire and (RED)Nights — both ways of fighting AIDS through music. Additionally, she helped produce the largest-grossing contemporary art auction in recent history, which raised more than $40 million for the Global Fund, expanding (RED)’s company partnerships and further strengthening the (RED) brand.
“I am delighted to join the Friends of the Global Fight Board of Directors,” said Ms. Smith Ellis. “Friends and (RED) are two critical champions of the Global Fund in the U.S. We have worked well together in the past. We will continue to do so in the future. I am confident that by aligning our two organizations in this way, we can be more helpful to the Global Fund, particularly as it looks to the private sector and donor governments for three-year funding pledges next month.”
“(RED) and Friends already enjoy a strong alliance in our shared goal of supporting the Global Fund,” said Natasha Bilimoria, President of Friends of the Global Fight. “Susan’s addition to the Friends Board will allow both organizations to collaborate even more closely to support the life-saving work of the Global Fund.”
Prior to joining (RED), Ms. Smith Ellis was executive vice president of the Omnicom Group. She has also held executive roles at Diversified Agency Services (DAS) (a division of Omnicom), BBDO and Hill Holliday Connors Cosmopulos in Boston, London, Sydney, Paris, Frankfurt and Hong Kong.
