Friends of the Global Fight Congratulates President-elect Barack Obama
Statement from Natasha Bilimoria, Executive Director of Friends of the Global Fight Washington, D.C., November 5, 2008
On behalf of Friends of the Global Fight Against AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, I congratulate Senator Barack Obama on his successful bid to be the 44th President of the United States.
Throughout his campaign, Senator Obama has clearly demonstrated his commitment to maintaining the
U.S. government’s critical role in global public health. As part of that commitment, Senator Obama has been a champion in the fight against AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria, including his support of the Global Fund.
Since its creation in 2002, with support from the U.S., the Global Fund has provided 1.75 million people with AIDS treatment, 3.9 million people with treatment for tuberculosis and 59 million bed nets to prevent malaria.
Senator Obama’s leadership holds great promise in building on this significant success. Friends of the Global Fight looks forward to working with president-elect Obama, vice president-elect Joe Biden, and their Administration.
