FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Friends of the Global Fight Congratulates Dr. Eric Goosby,
U.S. Global AIDS Coordinator
On Friday, the Senate confirmed Dr. Eric Goosby as U.S. Global AIDS Coordinator. In his role, Dr. Goosby will oversee the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and the U.S. Government’s international strategy to combat HIV/AIDS.
“Friends of the Global Fight is pleased to welcome Dr. Goosby as the Global AIDS Coordinator,” said Friends of the Global Fight Executive Director Natasha Bilimoria. “With his deep knowledge of the AIDS epidemic around the world and how best to address it in the field, Dr. Goosby promises to be a great leader of PEPFAR.”
PEPFAR and the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria enjoy a complementary and supportive relationship. Through strong coordination in PEPFAR’s 15 focus countries, the two organizations successfully ensure that resources are used efficiently and effectively. The Global Fund and PEPFAR work closely together, coordinating at every level including the highest levels in Geneva, Switzerland, and Washington, DC; between agencies at the staff level; and in the field among in-country partners. To date, the two programs combined have placed more than 3.5 million people on ARV treatment.
“The Global Fund and PEPFAR are close and critical partners, and it’s a partnership that benefits millions of people around the world,” Bilimoria said. “Under Dr. Goosby’s leadership, we look forward to continuing this important collaboration, bringing PEPFAR’s and the Global Fund’s important work to people affected by HIV/AIDS.”
